Rules for Engagement: Social Media Stylez 💍
Make your customer base say “i dooo want to follow you 💍🫶” on social media
Social media can be daunting. There’s a lot to do if you’re a creator or a brand–from keeping up with trends, to encouraging and maintaining interactions, all while staying true to your original objective: selling your brand to the customer. This is why when it comes to social media, no matter who, or what kind of brand, you are there’s one rule to follow: behave as a brand, interact as a person.
🏷 Behave as a brand
Your brand should be..well..a brand on social media. The product should be clear, it should be easy to shop or get to a place where you can; maintain a professional level when interacting, showing and talking about the product. It doesn’t have to be overly designed and brand saturated, in fact that’s on the way out, but it should look put together and clear that you’re not just on instagram to post some wedding pictures or vacation pictures, and then bounce! ✌️
More than that, it’s a place where people go to feel a connection to something they want to know more about or think they might/already love.
Post content that whispers your brand rather than yells it so that your customers feel a genuine connection–and if the product were to change, shift, move on, etc you would still have those who are loyal to the brand.
👋 Interact as a person
Customers should feel like they are interacting with someone. By “interacting with someone”, they automatically are drawn out of hesitation of buying and into something genuine that they feel they have a connection to (or with). This not only breaks down a wall but builds a community, and these days it’s community over everything–so be sure you’re focused on yours and who you want to be in it.
3 Ways to Keep It Branded
🔐 If you have a physical space, maybe the videos themselves are of the GRWM genre in different spots in your office, showing off the space the brand comes from
🔐 If you have a product, try placing the product in the frame or somewhere where it can be seen but isn’t the main point of the video.
🔐 If your product is wearable, show all the places you wear it–what does your brand look like out and about?
Questions for Keeping It Personal
Think about your ideal customer and then when writing, posting or choosing content–choose not only as if you were them, but as if you were them sharing something with their friends. Not in a Single White Female type of way, but in a Who Is This For type of way! Consider thinking about:
📔 Where they would shop?
📔 What they do on the weekends?
📔 What do they do while they’re interacting with your brand? (everybody is multitasking especially on social media)
📔 Who do they follow on social media (TikTok, Insta, or their most active channel)? and why?
If you can remember to behave as a brand and interact as a person your brand is on the way to finding its voice!
