Video killed the radio star, but TikTok killed the radio voice ⭐️
Since TikTok became popular, you don’t need the perfect radio voice to be the voice of your brand. People want to hear from you—literally. They don’t want a yearly newsletter, and gone are the days of postcards and vacation photo slides.
Photos used to be as close as someone could get to what someone as talking about, and then there was video and then there was FaceTime–but now anybody can practically be with you at any moment from a simple Instagram or TikTok live. This has created a more knowledgable group of followers who expect more from you.
People want to see, hear, and experience you experiencing life as it’s happening–not after the fact. One way to do that is by using your voice.
We all used to cringe and avoid our voice recording whenever we could, but now it’s commonplace to voiceover your videos no matter who you are. 🙈 It doesn’t matter if you have the most soothing or loud or personality-full voice, you can and should be your own voiceover! People are looking for authenticity, which means sharing aspects of yourself with your audience they would normally get in person.
Voice overs are one of the most popular, and easy, ways to do that! 🤩 You’re offering people something they can’t get anywhere else–the opportunity to hear your voice tell your story. 🤌 There may be people in your niche that are incredibly similar, but what will stand out in people’s minds, and can’t be used by anyone else, is your voice. This will also show people that you’re more than content (which, of course you are!), you’re a person with a voice, opinions and ideas!
3 Ways to Use Your Voice 🗣
🙋 Talk in the Video
remember you’ll need the audio, so be aware of how loud you’re talking and what background noises are going on
pro tip: change voice sound or speed if you’re a little nervous 🎚
👄 Voiceover clips after the fact
If for some reason you can’t use the audio that was happening, or you just want to mix it up try adding a song at very low volume with your voice explaining the clips; the music will cancel out any bits of silence and give you more room to be succinct with what you want to say.
🎧 Correspond the video to audio and use the audio as your sound
This is a fun switch up! Instead of using your actual voice, pretend you’re giving the concert of your life and really get into mouthing the audio. I’d recommending sticking to trending audio for this–but there are no rules! If you’re doing a dance video, or something similar, try mouthing the words while you’re moving to keep people engaged in what you’re “saying”.
Next time you’re considering whether or not to add sound, or maybe voiceover some clips, ADD THEM!! 🎙 Also–what a bop amirite??
