Good captions, no notes–that can be hard. 😅😬
Not only do you need to capture the attention of your audience, but in some cases bring them all the way through a purchasing journey. While that sounds easy, actually doing it can be…hazy at best…leaving you with questions and randomly successful posts. 😬
Getting and keeping the attention of your audience when they’re constantly bombarded by brands, maybe even with similar products, can be one of your biggest challenges, but also your biggest differentiator. That’s why it’s important to be positively memorable as a brand on social media. 🤩
Check out Part 1 ☝️
The formula for social media captions that connect with people = 💡 Interest + 🪤 Engagement + 🤝 CTA
💡 Creating Interest
Remember: interest gains attention.
❓ Ask a relevant question! …like a health brand asking about favorite winter activities.
❗️ Share surprising facts or stats! …like a financial company highlighting how many Americans lack a budget.
🤣Use humor in accordance with your brand voice! …like an optometrist might use “Have you seen our deals?”
Use a pun or a play on words that relates to your products or services! …like a coffee shop saying 'brew-tiful' ..or a book store asking customers if they're 'booked' for the weekend.
🍿 Invoke pop culture references! …like a restaurant could say their food is “fresher than the new Taylor Swift album” 😉
🪤 Creating Engagement
Remember: engagement keeps attention.
Create interactive captions by throwing in some questions, and showing some love to your audience via giveaways, trivia and other branded experiences.
👥 Tag Friends: a clothing brand could post a picture of a new outfit and ask, "Who could you see wearing this?" or encourage people to post a selfie for a discounted rate. This shows that REAL people like your stuff, which makes other real people like your stuff.
👥 User-generated content (UGC): This could be sharing photos that followers have taken with your products or sharing positive reviews. It makes the audience feel valued and closer to your brand.
👥 Contests or Giveaways: This is a great way to boost engagement. You could ask followers to like your post, follow your account, or share your post on their story to enter.
🤝 Creating Effective CTAs
Remember–CTAs make customers. Creating Effective CTAs:
🪞 Clarity: Keep it simple! "Check out our newsletter" or "Get to shopping!" are clear CTAs.
⏰ Urgency: Get'em moving! Use phrases like "Limited time offer" or "Don't miss out" that communicates this is a limited time offer.
👀 Value Forward!: Tell'em what's they get when they click that CTA. Like, "Get our NEW free e-book!" That sounds like a win both for information and price.
A simple phrase like "We’re having a sale, come in and check it out!" can be effective..but it's often more engaging when infused with brand personality. Strong CTAs capture attention, and foster connection with your audience so that your brand sticks with your audience for a long time. Tweaking the wording, tone, and call-to-action, the same message can create a completely different impact on your audience and significantly enhance impact! Here are 4 ways to rewrite the same CTA:
Straight Forward: Your favorite items this season are on SALE! Drop by!
Regular Sales: Discounted Days, Don’t Miss Out!
Limited Time: Your Favorites, At Your Favorite Prices–for a limited time!
Fun & Young: Get in bestie! We’re going SALE-ing!! 🚗🤭
