Post and ditch? Not if you want to see results! 👀
Why simply posting is not enough! 🤳 PLUS how to maximize your time on social media without spending all your time there! ⌛️ Magnify Series 🔎
You posted on all the brand social channels, but when you got back on the next day, only one person had liked it…and it was [insert that one supportive family member or friend here]. So how do you extend views, likes, saves and shares without being on ALL the time?? GET strategically SOCIAL!! 💃🕺
💍 Engage on the platforms you value most
If you feel like one platform is starting to lose its value for you, don’t be afraid to ditch it and focus your energy on the ones where your community is thriving. Ensure you have a system in place for people to contact you AND you'll be able to easily, promptly respond–like these:
Example 1: You get a lot of traction on Instagram, but none on Facebook, so you decide it’s time to ditch Facebook..but you can’t without deleting your Instagram page. Here’s how to deal with that…pin a post to your facebook page telling people where they can find you. Whether that’s your contact, new social pages or chats, make sure to leave a link and check in on it every once and while so that you know the link is working and the static information is updated. 👌
(Since Instagram and Facebook are connected, most of the time you can’t delete your Facebook page this would be an example of how to deal with having to keep a Facebook page with no traction.)
Example 2: You get a lot of traction on Bluesky so you decide to leave Twitter (good for you!). Give people a chance to find you by posting where you’ll be going, updating your links and then leaving your account alone. Pop in, and repeat that post once, or a few times a week—depending on how much you’re trying to grow your new main platform(s)—letting people know that you’ve moved and where they can find you. After about 2-3 months, if you’ve kept the connections you made, you can simply delete your account. 😎
🙅♀️ You don’t have to be chronically online
Find yourself stuck scrolling waaayyy after your original social media cut-off time (if you even set one)?? Start using limits or timers. This will allow you to spend some time catching up, interacting with your community by answering questions, responding to comments, etc. without staying on all day. You can set timers for certain apps as a setting on your phone, or within particular apps.
This can help change up what you’re seeing and pull you back to reality when you’ve gotten sucked in and feel like you’re wasting time, but somehow just keep scrolling. It can also help if you’re avoiding social media because you can’t stop scrolling.
Timers are also good for those who only want to spend a certain amount of time on socials—so even if you’re not a chronic scroller, this might benefit you!
⏱️ Find your optimal times
If you don’t find yourself getting stuck online scheduling your social media time can also be productive. When you’re planning your day, week, or month, plan time to get on social media.
Figure out when your audience is most online, and schedule time to get on then so that you’re able to connect with everyone, catch up and respond to any messages, comments or other interactions. Finding the right time might take some research, trial and error but it’ll be worth it once you figure out the best times to be online. If you have analytics, consider seeing if the particular platform or your scheduling platform (if you use one) provides times your audience is most online.
Social media is a balance, and when you’re a small business it can start falling off your schedule when you get too busy. With these tips, you’ll never let that happen because you’ll be prepared! 👌
